For Book jacket and festival programme
Sofia's second novel was going to press and the publisher wanted an author photograph by the end of the week. The constraint that matters on a jacket is not flattery, it is legibility: the picture is printed at about thirty millimetres and often in one colour.
So we kept the tonal range narrow and the face big in the frame. The wider ones are for the festival programme, where she gets a whole page and can afford to look like she is standing somewhere.
